What is the most important thing to you in this life?

Although such a simple question may have passed through our minds many times, not everyone has stopped to ponder thoroughly in their busy lives. Only when the pandemic comes, many of us have more time to ponder life’s true meaning. You may find many views from family, books, or religion. However, these are just references for us to find the answers to our own life.

What did I use to think?

Personally, I used to be taught that we need to work to be wealthy and live happily. There was a time I used to limit myself to my own concept of happiness. I used to think that wealth was important to my happiness. However, in the context of months of staying at home and hearing the continuously increasing number of cases and deaths every day, I felt that life is more fragile. I just start to wonder if my happiness concept remains true?

What if I was given a choice?

If I can choose my lifestyle right now, I would like to leave the city and return to my hometown. In such a distant place, I can grow my own vegetables, cook my own meals, learn meditation, yoga, learn to love myself, and stay close to nature. Anyway, in the 4.0 era, seeing and learning what personal share on social networks somehow helps me not to feel alone. I can also discover my new limits or talents. And because I always find positivity in difficulties, I understand more about the meaning of my existence in this life.

What made me think differently?

When reading the book Many lives, Many times by author Nguyen Phong, I think that all my relationships in this life, especially with my family members, maybe great predestined ones from a previous life. I also feel the happiness comes from simple things. I start wanting to share with those who are struggling in living. I believe that many people may sleep under bridges due to job loss, and inability to pay rent. When I’m kind to people, I feel my heart is bigger and humanity makes me feel warmer.

What is the most important thing to me this time and thereafter?

Although the prospect of extinguishing the pandemic is still far away, I think we will have to live with the pandemic for the economy to return to normal. Of course, we also need to stay distant, wear masks, disinfect, work from home to protect ourselves. More importantly, we need to adapt to this new life and find out what is lasting happiness within us. I understand that love and kindness are the most important things in my life now. And some quotes below would make sense to me this time and thereafter.

What are quotes that inspire you? What do you think is the most important thing in your life right now?
